Dai Powell appointed chair of Disabled Persons’ Transport Advisory Committee

The Department for Transport has appointed Dai Powell as the new Chair of the Disabled Persons' Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC).
The outgoing Chair is Neil Betteridge, who has served since July 2003 and will be stepping down on 30 June 2009. Mr Powell will take up the appointment from 1 September 2009.
The Department for Transport also announced the appointment of the following new members of the DPTAC: Heather James, Jagroop Kaur, Claire Lamb, John Ballantine, Olav Ernstzen, Asif Iqbal, Andrew Probert and Andrew Rickell.

European seafarer fatigue research launched

A major multi-partner European research project aiming to tackle the problems posed by seafarer fatigue has been launched with a two-day inaugural meeting at Warsash, in the UK.
The European Commission-funded Project Horizon brings together 11 academic institutions and organisations with a broad range of interests from the shipping industry in a 30-month research programme to examine the way in which fatigue affects the cognitive performance of ships' watchkeepers.
